Parent's Rights of Procedural Safeguards
Parents have the right to receive all special education evaluation reports two days before the team meeting. Parents must ask the school for copies of these reports in order to receive them in advance of the meeting. They may pick the reports up at the Administration Office. Districts are required by DESE to provide the DESE Parent Procedural Safeguards (PNPS) to inform parents and in their native language of their rights when an initial evaluation occurs. In addition to the annual distribution of the PNPS, the Seekonk Public Schools provides the PNPS to parents when an initial evaluation of a student is requested by the parent or another person; upon the parent's request for a copy; and when a student with a disability is removed from his or her placement to an interim alternative education setting as a result of discipline.
