The Child Nutrition Program in Seekonk Public Schools

At the middle and high school levels, our focus will be providing healthy and nutritionally balanced meals with increased selection. Other areas of importance include service, presentation, quality, and making the program student-friendly. Our Profiles in Good Taste program is sure to meet your dining needs and may include some or all of the following concepts, depending on the school.

Origins is a traditional school hot lunch station, rotating a variety of comfort foods such as casseroles, quality meats, and fresh vegetables. A variety of other foods will also rotate within this station.

Chartwells Sandwich Central features a variety of fresh breads, sliced meats, cheeses and toppings - made to order at the student's specification. This station will have a rotating daily special this year. Items like Burrito wraps and Boneless breast of chicken Sandwiches will be part of this station for the 09-10 school year.

This station offers the most popular school lunch entree - pizza. Chartwells serves fresh-baked pizza daily. Offerings include cheese as well as a variety of meat and vegetable toppings. Additional Italian entrees will be offered at this station as well as a new wheat pizza crust.

At The Fresh Grille station, Chartwells features some of its best-selling menu items. The name reflects grill-type items such as burgers and fries but will also include daily favorites such as grilled chicken sandwiches. This concept is very popular, the kids just love it. This year we will add new and exciting options and incorporate healthy sandwiches to this concept.

This "Grab and Go" station is ideal for customers in a hurry. It offers pre-packaged entree salads, pre-made wraps, and a variety of yogurts. Station labels are placed on the packaged product, enabling the customer to identify the product with ease.

Balanced Choice is a program developed by Chartwells to offer better for you entrees, snacks and beverages. We have been working with our suppliers to increase the number of Balanced Choice items so we can get them into the schools. The upcoming year will feature several new Balance Choice snacks, beverages and entrees. They will be marked in the cafeteria by this yellow symbol above. Below are the criteria for a Balanced Choice Snack.

Balanced Choices Snacks Criteria:
* No more than 35% calories from fat (per package); Excludes nuts, seeds and nut butters)
* No more than 10% calories from saturated fat (per package)
* No more than 35% sugar by weight per package (excludes fruits and vegetables)
* No more than 480 mg. sodium
* No more than 200 calories per package |
