Dr. Emile M. Chevrette
Interim Superintendent
Welcome!
The 2007-2008 school year promises to be one of growth for Seekonk. We welcome several new administrators: Melissa Earls, Director of Instruction and Professional Development, Scott Holcomb, Assistant Principal of the high school. Christine Whatley, Director of Guidance at the high school, Jane Daly, Principal of Hurley Middle School, and Kevin Madden, Principal of the Martin School. They join returning administrators Marcia McGovern, high school Principal, Nancy Gagliardi, Principal of Aitken School and Alan Thivierge, Assistant Principal of the middle school. This administrative team will work with staff of 185 teachers, 25 of whom are new to Seekonk, to provide an outstanding educational experience to our 2207 students.
During the last school year, a group of stakeholders developed a strategic plan for the Seekonk School Department. This plan consists of five goals which will guide the work of the school district for the next five years. These areas are Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment; District and School Organization; Community Relations and Partnerships; District and School Resources and Technology. The next step in the strategic planning process is the development of detailed action plans for each of the goals. Very shortly the district will begin to recruit teachers, parents, student and community members for each action planning team. I urge you to seriously consider volunteering for this important task.
During the upcoming school year, the high school will be evaluated by a NEASC (New England Association of Schools and Colleges) accreditation team. Members of the high school staff have conducted a self study during the 2006-2007 school year in preparation for this visit. I am confident that, as a result of their efforts, the visiting team will be pleased with what they see when they spend a week at the school next April.
During the upcoming school year, we will continue our work to update our curriculum and to examine state of the art materials and technology in order to provide our students the best education possible. I urge you to visit this website often as we will use it during the school year to keep you abreast of activities and initiatives within the Seekonk School Department.
